Prevention of an Emergency
The simplest way to avoid performing first aid on your pet is to prevent accidents and emergencies from occuring in the first place.
- Keep you dog on a leash or under control, and keep you cat indoors
- Keep poisons-such as rat and mouse poison or corrosive household cleaners-out of your home.
- Crate train your dog so he stays out of trouble when you are not at home.
- Mointor your pet for signs of disease. If you notice any weight loss, lack of appetite, persistent coughing, pale gums, exercise intolerance, or diffculity breathing, see your veterinarian. The sooner your veterinarian can diagonse the problem, the better your pet's prognosis is.
