Teeth Cleaning

Teeth cleaning in animals requires anesthesia. Modern anesthesia has a very low risk for complications, provided that precautions are taken before, during and after anesthesia. These precautions include pre-anesthetic blood testing, intravenous catheter and fluids during the procedure and cardiovascular monitoring.

Dental procedures begin with scaling of the teeth.

Scaling scrapes the plaque and tartar from above and below the gumline.

The next step after scaling the teeth, is polishing in order to protect the teeth's enamel.

Polishing removes plaque, tartar, and stain and makes it more difficult for plaque and debris to accumulate on teeth to cause decay or gum disease.

The Basics

New Dogs and Cats

  • Well Check:  All new pets receive a Well Check visit.  During this visit we will determine if there are any hidden health problems and educate the owner on how to care for the pet regardless of your pet's age.  We will make recommendations for any needed tests or vaccines.
  • Spays and Neuters:  This procedure is important in order to manage the pet population and to prevent ovarian, testicular and prostate cancer. We recommend spaying or neutering after 4 months of age.

Annual Pet Care

  • Annual Exams: A typical wellness exam includes a complete physical, fecal exams, heartworm, lyme and ehrlichia tests, leukemia, and fiv test for your cats and vaccines if needed.  These exams help you choose any special care needed to help your animal live a long and healthy life.
  • Laboratory Testing:  For all of our patients we offer a comprehensive blood test that shows us if there are any hidden maladies in the liver or kidney functions as well as letting us know the best type of anesthesia to use for a particular pet. By having this baseline exam, we can measure any changes in function as your pet ages.
  • Dental Teeth Cleaning and Gum Health: Pets need healthy teeth and gums too!  Most of our animals have their teeth cleaned annually.  "Dirty Teeth" lead to bad breath, gum disease, tooth loss, mouth infections and contributes to organ failure.
  • Nutrition: Your pet's energy, skin health, coat and bodily functions are all a function of diet.  We provide nutritional counseling & education in addition to stocking the best pet foods available.  We can counsel you on incorporating raw food into your pet's diet.
